Dear Michele,

At a meeting of website owners held today, it was agreed that I should contact you to request a meeting concerning the University's proposed change of policy regarding personal websites.

As usual the University has not engaged in any consultation whatsoever with the people who will be directly affected by such a change in policy. We would like to remedy this situation and to have some serious input into the revision process. We trust that this initiative will be received in the constructive spirit in which it is intended. We would like to bring about half a dozen web owners to a meeting which would include yourself, John Owen, David Supple and Carolyn Pike the University's Legal Officer. It may also be appropriate to have Gill Ball present as Acting Registrar and Secretary, and also a representative from Personnel. We have very serious concerns about the possible effects on workload, security, legal liability, research dissemination, the University's public image and academic freedom.

I look forward to hearing from you. Perhaps after consultation with the other individuals concerned you could get back to me with some possible dates for a meeting early in the new year? I will let you have a list of the names of the website owners who would be attending in due course.

Best wishes,

Sue Blackwell
